SPINE CONDITIONS: FACET SYNDROME
Facet syndrome is a natural degeneration that happens with age. It’s an arthritis-like condition where the cartilage within the joints begins to naturally wear and become thinner. The conjoining vertebrae will then rub directly against one another, which can result in inflammation or swelling. At the New York Spine Institute, we can help treat facet syndrome. We are dedicated to treating you with the best care possible to recover in the most stable way possible.*

Facet syndrome can be caused by trauma such as a car accident or work accident where whiplash occurs. More commonly, degenerative changes in the thoracic, cervical, and lumbar spine will lead to abnormal stress and strain, which results in a heavier load on the facet joints.
Other risk factors can include:*
Facet syndrome can be difficult to identify due to the subtlety of its symptoms, which can be hard to see without a flare-up. It’s mostly a dull, aching pain, in the back of the neck or lower back areas, so it can be easy to dismiss if you aren’t careful.*
Before you using any imaging services, it’s important to discuss with your doctor your family’s medical history, how your symptoms feel and how they affect your sleep and daily life. Afterwards, you may be recommended for an imaging service such as an MRI, x-ray, or a diagnostic block into the suspected joint.*
We offer the two main non-invasive treatments that are typically used for facet syndrome:
Surgery that can be involved in the event that non-invasive treatments are exhausted can include:
