DIAGNOSIS OF YOUR BACK PAIN

Our team gives focus to patients of all ages who suffer from chronic back or neck pain that interferes with their daily activities. The doctors here at the NYSI are highly trained and skilled in all the complexities of the spine. They offer patients, during the consultation phase, information they need to better understand back and neck pain treatment options. After completing your consultation, your neck specialist will perform a complete examination and analysis and gather the pertinent information needed to design your personalized treatment plan.

The information gathered during your consultation, greatly assists your doctor in his anticipated treatment plan. When your assessment and any necessary testing is completed, your doctor will follow up with a discussion of the treatment options available, whether physical therapy, bracing or surgical intervention as well as other treatments that fall in between. Most treatments for back or neck pain, are non-surgical but, in more severe cases surgical procedures may be required.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Once diagnosis, assessment, and evaluation of your back or neck pain has been completed, the specialists will then work alongside of you to develop a pain management program that meets with your individual needs. Your team is there, every step of the way.

The highly reputable neck surgeons and back pain specialists are always on hand to perform assessments, diagnoses, and management of various types of pain.*

Spinal Conditions we can help treat include:

PHYSICAL THERAPY

When surgery is involved, patients undergoing the surgery must understand the important role physical therapy and rehabilitation will play in their post-surgery protocol and in their recovery. Surgeries, even the most minimally invasive surgeries, require physical therapy. PT assists most patients with movement and mobility, decreases pain, restores function, and limits disability in individuals with injuries or impairments. *

Michael Friar, D.P.T., leads our physical therapy department provides physical therapies personalized to patients’ needs. Some treatment plans rely heavily on proper stretching, exercise, and manual therapy with the ultimate goal being the improvement of health. Patients are taught to understand their own body mechanics and postural awareness and are offered instructions on how to perform home exercises. Home exercises are beneficial to the healing process and help patients to avoid relapse.

PT treatments include combined cardio and weight machines that target strength and endurance training. A licensed physical therapist evaluates and assesses you in order to determine functioning levels, pain thresholds, and physical restrictions prior to assigning a PT plan to you. After the evaluation is completed, your personal doctor together with Michael Friar will design and develop a PT treatment plan focused on your health goals.
