Many of us will suffer from back or neck pain at one point in our lives. This is completely normal, until it begins interrupting your daily life. Since many conditions are difficult for the client to pinpoint, it is crucial you see an expert physician. That’s when you visit the NYSI, where your spinal condition can be accurately diagnosed and treated. Once a diagnosis is made, our specialists offer a variety of appropriate treatment options, from physical therapy to surgery.
We understand that a customized treatment plan can make a huge impact on the recovery process. No two Valley Stream, NY patients are the same, and neither are their conditions. Even patients suffering from the same disorder will have varying treatment plans.
Our neck and back doctors begin with an evaluation, to get a complete feel of what you are experiencing. This includes listening to the patient’s complaints and concerns, and administering appropriate tests to ensure the correct diagnosis is made. New York Spine Institute is a surgical practice, though surgery is never our first option. We understand most patients will completely recover with a non-operative treatment plan, which is why that is our first choice whenever possible.*
The majority of Americans suffer from mild levels of pain on a daily basis that is easily managed and does not interfere with daily activities. However, moderate to severe back and neck pain requires a pain management treatment developed by an expert physician.
Our first, second, and third treatment options are always minimally invasive and non-surgical rehabilitation. Even our patients who undergo surgical operations will require physical therapy for successful recovery. New York Spine Institute serving Valley Stream is proud to announce our very own licensed physical therapist, Michael Friar D.P.T.
Physical therapy is helpful for many ailments, especially regarding the spine. The goal of physical therapy is to encourage mobility, decrease pain, restore function, and prevent further damage or injury. This can be done through stretching, custom exercise programs, manual therapy, etc. Just like our treatment options are customized, so is our physical therapy. We believe an important aspect of physical therapy is to teach. Michael Friar, D.P.T. takes the time to teach patients body mechanics, postural awareness, and home exercise programs to further progress, maintain their condition, and avoid recurrent injury.
In addition to simple stretching, exercise, and teaching, NYSI emphasizes strength and endurance training for qualified conditions. Our licensed physical therapist will evaluate each patient to determine current level of function and desired level of function, while keeping their pain intensity and daily lifestyle in mind.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a helpful diagnostic tool for many conditions. This procedure is noninvasive, comfortable, quick, and most importantly, safe. The MRI allows radiologists to get an inside look at bones and soft tissue. Our state-of-the-art digital radiology department provides individualized care in line with NYSI’s mission and advanced diagnostic and imaging tools.
MRIs have grown in popularity over the last few decades for their ability to assist in accurate diagnosis of numerous conditions. The safe and painless procedure is able to produce detailed images that allow for visibility of certain conditions which may otherwise be undetectable through X-Ray, ultrasound, or CT scan. *
New York Spine Institute serving Valley Stream utilizes a high-field short-bore 1.5T MRI system and Digital Radiography (DX) X-Ray technology. The high field short bore 1.5T MRI system can be used for a wide range of clinical applications, including but not limited to: spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle, foot. *
The NYSI is proud to offer the brand new GE 1.5T system, which is able to evaluate a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders through high quality, detailed picturing of inside anatomy.
Additionally, select NYSI locations offer a digital radiography department. Digital radiography is able to capture and digitize images, providing the radiologist an easy way to analyze inner bone and tissue anatomy. In a similar vein, we also offer Long Length Imaging (LLI) to assist in the assessment of scoliosis.
Aside from providing patients with an accurate diagnosis and customized treatment plan, our top priority is individualized care and overall comfort and safety.
