Dr. Alexios Apazidis is a board-certified orthopedic spinal surgeon with New York Spine Institute (NYSI). He currently treats patients facing orthopedic and spine conditions at multiple NYSI locations across New York City and Long Island and performs surgical procedures at St. Joseph’s, Mercy & Nassau University Hospital. He is also licensed to perform surgeries in New Jersey and Florida.

Dr. Apazidis focuses on educating patients to allow them to have a full understanding of their treatment options and surgical procedures. He is committed to restoring patients’ health and mobility, allowing them to live pain-free. He is pleased when patients meet with him and share that they are eager to go back to work and other physical activities.

With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Apazidis stays up to date with the latest surgical procedures and techniques. He specializes in highly technical, minimally invasive spinal surgeries which allow for faster recovery and better outcomes.

As a young man, he developed a keen interest in science and human physiology. Before attending medical school, he worked with a medical instrument and device company and observed how orthopedic surgeons were reconstructing people who suffered from injuries and chronic conditions. From this, he knew that he wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Apazidis earned his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Harvard University and completed the Military Science program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. He then received his M.B.A. and medical doctorate degree from Boston University. Dr. Apazidis completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and his fellowship in Orthopedic Spine and Deformity Surgery at New York University’s Hospital for Joint Diseases.
Prior to joining NYSI, Dr. Apazidis worked with a surgical practice in New York City and earlier, he was with a surgical group on Long Island. During this period, he performed many spinal and other orthopedic surgical procedures at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.

He is currently the Editor and Reviewer of the Journal of Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy and the Journal of Digital Imaging. Dr. Apazidis has authored many peer-reviewed spine related articles and contributed to numerous medical journals.

He is an active member of professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Medical Association, North American Spine Society, New York State Medical Society and the Suffolk County Medical Society.
