The physicians at NYSI, led by medical director Alexandre B. de Moura, M.D., FAAOS, are all respected leaders in the neck and back disorder industry.
New York Spine Institute realizes the only way to truly provide personalized care is by making our services accessible to everyone. Our Rockville Centre patients have the option to receive care in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, and Russian.
Spine disorders are complex conditions often hard for even the most skilled physician to articulate. We commonly see patients who suffer from a serious spinal disorder refer to their symptoms simply as “neck or back pain”. Our experienced neck and back doctors have decades of experience, meaning they are able to accurately diagnose any spinal condition and explain it to you in a way that can be understood. While diagnosis is important, NYSI stresses the importance of pain management treatment, for pain relief that lasts. *

New York Spine Institute understands surgery is not always the best answer. We aim to perform surgery only when it is absolutely required. The most common surgical operation we perform is pinched nerve relief. We also commonly perform surgery on patients suffering from immobility or loss of function caused by compression of the spinal cord or mechanical instability of the spine.
Board-certified orthopedic surgeons are available to treat spinal surgery patients in our surgical department. Our neck, back, and spine surgeons are specialists in the field, having undergone extensive training regarding all types of spine-related disorders. In addition to performing the actual surgery, our surgeons take time before the procedure to explain exactly what is going to happen and answer any question or concerns the patient may have. After the operation, we provide a comprehensive overview of how the surgery went, what was found, and discuss an in-depth treatment plan to get you back on your feet. *
New York Spine Institute specializes in treatment of scoliosis, and we are proud to be the leading scoliosis treatment center in the area. Our scoliosis experts are trained to care for pediatric and adult patients, experiencing all levels of severity. Whether your specific scoliosis is a common degenerative type or a more complex congenital problem, our team will have you feeling better in no time. *
Thankfully, scoliosis does not always require surgical treatment. For Rockville Centre patients with severe cases, surgery will be performed at NYU’s Hospital for Joint Diseases. This nationally ranked institution is home to a team of respected and trusted spine surgeons, who are active in their field through lectures and publications. Chronic, intense, or recurring back pain can seriously impact your day-to-day life. If you’re experiencing these symptoms, it may be time to schedule a visit to New York Spine Institute. Back pain is an enigma, as there is no one common cause. The back and neck doctors at NYSI are well-versed in all types of spinal conditions, giving them the ability to determine the exact cause of your individual symptoms and develop a treatment plan from there. Our Rockville Centre patients will be presented with different treatment options so you have the freedom to choose what works best for YOU.
As what pain and symptoms our patients are experiencing varies across the board, so do our treatment plans. No two patients suffering from the same disorder share the same medical history, daily lifestyle, or symptoms. That’s why New York Spine Institute is committed to providing our Rockville Centre patients with a unique treatment plan specific to them.
With every patient our specialists see, the first step always remains the same. A complete evaluation will be done, where our team will ask questions, perform tests we deem fit, and listen to what you are experiencing. From there, our expert physicians will determine the exact diagnosis. The next step to a pain-free life is pain treatment. Although the NYSI is commonly associated with surgery, we try to avoid this whenever possible. If it is possible for our Rockville Centre patients to experience pain relief non-surgically, that will always be our top choice. *

Physical therapy is a necessity for full recovery, whether it be your main form of treatment or a post-operative step. New York Spine Institute’s physical therapy department is led by licensed physical therapist Michael Friar, D.P.T.
Many of our back, neck, and spine patients require only physical therapy to encourage pain relief. Physical therapy encourages mobility and restores proper functioning, especially for patients dealing with limited range of mobility. Physical therapy may incorporate stretching, manual therapy, cardio exercises, or strength and endurance training, based on individual needs and patient-specific goals. NYSI also stresses the importance of teaching patients proper body mechanics, postural awareness, and ways to incorporate physical therapy at home.
Our licensed physical therapist will evaluate each patient’s current level of function and desired level of function in conjunction with the type of pain relief they require. The NYSI’s top priority is the safety of our Rockville Centre clients, and will only implement techniques that will lead to progress, management, and overall pain relief.
