PREMIER SCOLIOSIS TREATMENT CENTER OF PORT WASHINGTON

Millions of people here in the United States are affected by scoliosis, which is a side to side curvature of the spine, unlike the spine’s natural front to back curves. If curvature of the spine is minimal, typically no additional health issues will be present. However, if the curvature is exaggerated, then multiple health issues can occur, including fatigue, muscle pain, back pain, spinal arthritis, or even breathing issues.

Recognized as one of the best all round treatment centers for scoliosis in the U.S., the NYSI offers superior care and treatment to Port Washington patients, and those in the surrounding towns as well. Our spine and back specialists provide treatment for all types of scoliosis, including degenerative or common idiopathic scoliosis. Here at the NYSI, we offer extensive care for both children and adults alike, and understand the overall impacts scoliosis has on individuals of all ages. *

The highly-qualified surgeons here at NYSI possess years of knowledge and experience at our nationally ranked center, NYU Hospital, for Joint Diseases,* many of which have authored publications on scoliosis, and have even delivered lectures on the subject across the world.

DIAGNOSIS OF YOUR BACK PAIN

If you suffer from neck pain or back pain, then take that first step and reach out to the back specialists at NYSI for your personalized back and neck pain treatment. Our back doctors will conduct an initial consultation to learn more about your medical history and pain, and provide you with a personalized course of treatment thereafter.

We analyze and assess your symptoms and histories, perform a variety of tests, and once our diagnosis has been reached, will provide you with an effective treatment plan to combat your pain. Treatment options range from bracing and physical therapy, all the way up to surgical intervention, and a variety of other options in between. We do, however, try to avoid surgical treatments if possible, and give focus to non-invasive treatment options at the start of treatment.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Our Port Washington patients will learn effective pain management options as well at the NYSI.  Though millions of people suffer from pain, understanding the source of the pain and treatment options available is essential to achieving improved health. Our back pain doctors and surgeons have undergone specialized education, which includes assessing, diagnosing and managing various types of pain, as well as training in the newest technologies, treatment options, and medical diagnostics related to back and neck pain issues.*

PHYSICAL THERAPY

In addition, here at the NYSI, we provide state of the art physical therapies to help patients enjoy a successful rehabilitation and quick road to recovery. Even the most minimally invasive surgeries require some sort of physical therapy for recovery, and often times that therapy assists patients with movement and mobility, decreases pain, restores function, and limits disability in individuals with injuries or impairments.*

Our licensed physical therapist, Michael Friar, D.P.T., provides effective physical therapy treatments, including proper stretching, exercise, and manual therapy, and offers instructions to patients on the use of home exercises, body mechanics and postural awareness, all of which help in preventing injuries from recurring. He offers patients the insight needed to understand the source of their pain, the treatment options available, and cannot reinforce enough how important it is to be committed to your PT plan.

In his PT treatment plans, he combines cardio and weight machines to target strength and endurance training. Our Port Washington patients must first be evaluated by one of our licensed physical therapists to determine pain thresholds, current functioning levels, and any physical restrictions that may exist. Following this evaluation and its assessment, patients are then prescribed by Michael Friar, D.P.T. and assisting back doctors a personalized PT plan that focuses on patients’ forward goals.

IMAGING SERVICES FOR PORT WASHINGTON PATIENTS

Here at the NYSI we have a state-of-the-art radiology department that includes magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for diagnosing many types of conditions. We are also equipped with state-of-the-art Digital Radiography (DX) x-ray which, like the MRI, is safe and noninvasive.  Our digital radiology department allows our back doctors and radiologists to analyze images for bone and soft tissue anatomy.

The high field short bore 1.5T MRI system supports a wide range of clinical applications, including but not limited to: MRI’s of the spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle and foot, and helps doctors to evaluate a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders.*

The MRI has proven very valuable for diagnosing a broad range of conditions which may not be visible with other imaging methods such as x-ray, ultrasound or CT (Computed Tomography).*  We are also equipped with Long Length Imaging (LLI) for diagnosis and assessment of scoliosis patients.

Here at the NYSI, our primary goal is to offer treatment to patients, along with personalized treatment plans that offer effective care and comfort to every patient. We accomplish this by providing a relaxing and calming environment for patients, and allow them a choice of music, earplugs, and a sleeping mask to make them feel every bit like being at home.

*The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment will vary by patient and condition. New York Spine Institute does not guarantee certain results.
