PHYSICAL THERAPY

When your surgery is over, one of the best things you can do for your health is to enroll in physical therapy. Even if your surgery was minimally invasive, you can’t simply expect to feel better right away. When you add physical therapy to your recovery program, you’ll be able to aid your movement and mobility, decrease pain, restore function, and limit disability. If you’re in a job that requires you to put constant strain on your neck or back, that may be especially important to you.

Thankfully, our patients in the Poughkeepsie, NY area now have access to our world-class licensed physical therapist – Michael Friar, D.P.T. Under his guidance, you’ll learn exercises based around stretching, modalities, and manual therapy. You’ll also work on  proper body mechanics and postural awareness. When you’re at home, you can go through your personalized routine. And when you’re in our office, you’ll also have access to our world-class cardio and weight machines. Using these, you’ll be able to target strength and endurance training. All of these exercises will lead you on a better path to recovery and possibly even prevent future injury.

The first step in our process is an evaluation by one of our licensed physical therapists. They will assess your current level of function and pain intensity. They will also consider your lifestyle. Then, our resident Michael Friar, D.P.T. will take all of that into account to suggest treatment options available. He will always focus on specializing your back pain treatment and setting realistic goals.

IMAGING SERVICES FOR POUGHKEEPSIE PATIENTS

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine was invented in 1977 and has since revolutionized medical practices everywhere. It is a useful, non-invasive, and safe way to help diagnose conditions. Our MRI machine gives our doctors the tools that they need to analyze your bones and soft tissue anatomy.

Our office in Poughkeepsie has state of the art and technologically advanced diagnostic tools. In addition to our 1.5 MRI system, we also have a Digital Radiography (DX) x-ray.

Our high-field short bore 1.5 MRI system supports many clinical situations. We can do MRI scans of the spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, ankle, and even the foot!

New York Spine Institute’s brand-new GE 1.5 system will also provide our physicians with their best images yet. With this system, our back surgeons will be able to see high-quality and detailed pictures of your condition. That way, they can try to more accurately diagnose and eventually treat your back pain.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetism and radio waves to produce detailed images of the body. It is used all over the world to diagnose multiple conditions. That is because it is extremely safe, non-invasive, and helpful to physicians. Many times, an MRI scan will pick up the presence of a certain disease when other tools such as x-rays cannot.

We know that doctor’s visits can be scary but we don’t think they should be. We want you to feel comfortable and confident in our office. That is why we have made our office in Poughkeepsie as relaxing as possible. We have relaxing music, earplugs, and even sleeping masks.

New York Spine Institute of Poughkeepsie  is even outfitted with its own digital radiology department. In this part of our practice, the images are digitized and radiologists can analyze bone and soft tissue. As part of this, we also offer Longth Length Imaging (LLI) for proper scoliosis assessment.

*The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment will vary by patient and condition. New York Spine Institute does not guarantee certain results.
