“If I can help one person and say you’ll make it through this, go to them, they will help you. I would help you to let you see what it is like on the other side of the fence when someone goes through so much injury and trauma and then in turn, feels like I do. If you can just meet one doctor, please meet Dr. de Moura.”

“I was having severe chronic back pain daily. This went on for almost fifteen years. As soon as I met Dr. Macagno I said, “that’s the guy.” I eventually had a spinal fusion L4/5 and S1. This was a ten-hour procedure. I exceeded both Dr. Macagno and the hospital staff expectations. Instead of walking a few steps, I easily walked the full length of the hospital halls and climbed stairs almost immediately after surgery. I am so happy to have met Dr. Macagno. I sing his praises every day and I always post on social media about how amazing I am doing every year on the anniversary of my surgery.”

Dr.v is a great doctor !!! From day one he has accessed and managed my pain while acknowledging me not only as his patient but as a person as well. Every Dr office should have a Dr. V and the world for patients with pain would be a much better place. I haven’t had a Dr this great since Dr de Mourra who did my surgery In 2013. Thank you Dr de Mourra for referring me to a pain management dr who really cares for my needs as his patient. It has been a tough road . I can now honestly say the road I travel now as a pain patient is much smoother and manageable. Thank you Dr v and NYU.

Physical therapy

We also prescribe appropriate physical therapies here at NYSI to help patients enjoy a successful rehabilitation and quick road to recovery.  When patients undergo surgeries, whether minimally invasive or invasive, they must engage in physical therapy for recovery and often times that therapy assists patients with movement and mobility, decreases pain, restores function, and limits disability in individuals with injuries or impairments.*

Our licensed physical therapist, Michael Friar, D.P.T., works closely with all of our dedicated back doctors in their efforts to provide effective, personalized physical therapy treatments which often include proper stretching, exercise, and manual therapy as well as instructions on the use of home exercises, body mechanics and postural awareness, all of which help in preventing injuries from recurring.  Doctors help patients to understand the source of their pain, the treatment options available and doctors cannot reinforce enough how important it is to be committed to your PT plan.

The PT treatment plans prescribed by Michael Friar combine cardio and weight machines to target strength and endurance training.  Our Bay Shore patients are first evaluated by one of our licensed physical therapists to determine pain thresholds, current functioning levels, and any physical restrictions that may exist before a personalized PT plan can be put in place.   Following this evaluation and its assessment, patients are then prescribed their personalized PT plan that focuses on patients forward goals.

Imaging services For Bay Shore Patients

Here at the NYSI we have an innovative, state of the art radiology department that includes magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for diagnosing many types of conditions. We are also equipped with state-of-the-art Digital Radiography (DX) x-ray which, like the MRI, is safe and noninvasive.  Our digital radiology department allows our back doctors and radiologists to analyze images for bone and soft tissue anatomy.

The high field short bore 1.5T MRI system supports a wide range of clinical applications including but not limited to MRI’s of the Spine, Brain, Abdomen, Pelvis, Shoulder, Knee, Hip, Elbow, Wrist, Hand, Ankle and Foot and helps doctors to evaluate a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders.* The MRI has proven very valuable for diagnosing a broad range of conditions which may not be visible with other imaging methods such as x-ray, ultrasound or CT (Computed Tomography).*  We are also equipped with Long Length Imaging (LLI) for diagnosis and assessment of scoliosis patients.

Here at the NYSI we strive to provide all our Bay Shore patients with personalized treatment plans that help with their overall recovery.  We offer our patients a relaxing and calming environment and allow them a choice of music, earplugs and a sleeping mask to make them feel every bit at home.

*The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment will vary by patient and condition. New York Spine Institute does not guarantee certain results.
