“If I can help one person and say you’ll make it through this, go to them, they will help you. I would help you to let you see what it is like on the other side of the fence when someone goes through so much injury and trauma and then in turn, feels like I do. If you can just meet one doctor, please meet Dr. de Moura.”

“I was having severe chronic back pain daily. This went on for almost fifteen years. As soon as I met Dr. Macagno I said, “that’s the guy.” I eventually had a spinal fusion L4/5 and S1. This was a ten-hour procedure. I exceeded both Dr. Macagno and the hospital staff expectations. Instead of walking a few steps, I easily walked the full length of the hospital halls and climbed stairs almost immediately after surgery. I am so happy to have met Dr. Macagno. I sing his praises every day and I always post on social media about how amazing I am doing every year on the anniversary of my surgery.”

Dr.v is a great doctor !!! From day one he has accessed and managed my pain while acknowledging me not only as his patient but as a person as well. Every Dr office should have a Dr. V and the world for patients with pain would be a much better place. I haven’t had a Dr this great since Dr de Mourra who did my surgery In 2013. Thank you Dr de Mourra for referring me to a pain management dr who really cares for my needs as his patient. It has been a tough road . I can now honestly say the road I travel now as a pain patient is much smoother and manageable. Thank you Dr v and NYU.

Physical Therapy

Unfortunately, successful surgery doesn’t usually end in automatic total recovery. Even patients who undergo minimally invasive surgeries will likely require physical therapy afterwards. By completing a physical therapy regime, you may be able to help decrease pain, restore function, and limit future disability. We particularly recommend post-operational physical therapy to our Chelsea patients with active lifestyles. If you are regularly putting strain on your neck or back, you will want to recover as soon as possible.

Thankfully, our Chelsea patients now also have access to our world-class licensed physical therapist – Michael Friar. Under his guidance, you’ll learn exercises based around stretching, modalities, and manual therapy. You’ll also work on also proper body mechanics and postural awareness. When you’re at home, you can go through your personalized routine. But when you’re in our office, you’ll  have access to our world-class cardio and weight machines. Using these, you’ll be able to improve your strength and endurance.

All of these exercises will lead you on a better path to recovery and possibly even prevent future injury. The first step in our process is an evaluation by one of our licensed physical therapists. They will assess your current level of function and pain intensity. They will also consider your lifestyle. Then, our resident Michael Friar, D.P.T. will everything into account to suggest the best treatment options available. He will always focus on specializing your back pain treatment and setting realistic goals.

Imaging Services For Chelsea Patients

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine was invented in 1977 and has since revolutionized medical practices everywhere. It is a useful, non-invasive, and safe way to help diagnose conditions. Our MRI machine gives our neck doctors the tools that they need to analyze your bones and soft tissue anatomy.

New York Spine Institute has state of the art and technologically advanced diagnostic tools. In addition to our 1.5 MRI system, we also have a Digital Radiography (DX) x-ray. Our high-field short bore 1.5 MRI system supports many clinical situations. It will can our neck doctors look at the spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, ankle, or even the foot of our Chelsea patients.

New York Spine Institute’s brand-new GE 1.5 system will also provide our physicians with their best images yet. With this system, our back surgeons will be able to see high-quality and detailed pictures of your condition. That way, they can try to more accurately diagnose and eventually treat your back pain. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetism and radio waves to produce detailed images of the body. It is used all over the world to diagnose multiple conditions. That is because it is extremely safe, non-invasive, and helpful to physicians. Many times, an MRI scan will pick up the presence of a certain disease when other tools such as x-rays cannot.

We know that doctor’s visits can be scary but we don’t think they should be. We want you to feel comfortable and confident in our office. That is why we have made our office as relaxing as possible. We have relaxing music, earplugs, and even sleeping masks. New York Spine Institute is even outfitted with its own digital radiology department. In this part of our practice, the images are digitized and radiologists can analyze bone and soft tissue. As part of this, we also offer Longth Length Imaging (LLI) for proper scoliosis assessment.

*The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment will vary by patient and condition. New York Spine Institute does not guarantee certain results.
