PHYSICAL THERAPY

Our most common treatment option is physical therapy, for both surgical and non-surgical patients. Physical therapy is a non-operative treatment providing quick results. We believe physical therapy is a great option, as it is easy for patients to incorporate and continue progressing outside of the office. New York Spine Institute’s Physical Therapy Department is led by Michael Friar, D.P.T. The main goal of physical therapy is to encourage mobility and restore proper function in the back, neck, and spine.

Physical therapy commonly implements stretching, exercise, and manual therapy. Based on each client’s condition, not all aspects of physical therapy may be necessary. Additionally, an important part of physical therapy is actually not physical at all. NYSI’s physical therapy team teaches patients proper body mechanics and postural awareness, which we believe is just as important in the road to recovery. We also provide every patient with at-home exercise programs, specially designed to fit into their daily life, for long-term pain management.

In addition to stretching and non-strenuous exercise, some patients may benefit from strength and endurance training. Our physical therapy department is equipped with weight and cardio machines designed specially for physical therapy treatment. New York Spine Institute takes patient safety extremely seriously, which is why our licensed physical therapist will evaluate each patient’s current level of function and design an optimal level of function. We do this in conjunction with creating realistic goals and keeping each patient’s individual needs in mind.

IMAGING SERVICES FOR GARDEN CITY PATIENTS

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is useful for diagnosing many conditions. It is safe and noninvasive, and helps NYSI to uphold its mission of treating patients with comfort. The digital radiology department allows the radiologist to analyze images for bone and soft tissue anatomy. NYSI diagnostic imaging provides individualized care as well as state-of-the-art diagnostics.

To aid in diagnostics, we often utilize Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This imaging tool produces high-quality images of the inner anatomical structure in a noninvasive and safe manner. This service is performed in our digital radiology department by one of our expert radiologists, using only the most advanced diagnostic and imaging tools.

The MRI is often a physician’s first choice to aid in diagnosing a plethora of different conditions in medicine. The painless, fast procedure allows for visibility of conditions that are undetectable from the exterior.

Our radiologists serving Garden City, NY utilize a high-field short-bore 1.5T MRI system and Digital Radiography (DX) X-Ray technology. The high field short bore 1.5T MRI system can be used for a wide range of clinical applications, including but not limited to: spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle, foot.

The NYSI’s digital radiology department also offers the GE 1.5T system, which produces detailed anatomical pictures used to evaluate musculoskeletal disorders.

Select NYSI locations have an on-site digital radiography department for the convenience of our Garden City, NY patients. Digital radiography is able to digitize images of inner bone and tissue anatomy. We also offer Long Length Imaging (LLI), used specifically for scoliosis conditions.
