“I was having severe chronic back pain daily. This went on for almost fifteen years. As soon as I met Dr. Macagno I said, “that’s the guy.” I eventually had a spinal fusion L4/5 and S1. This was a ten-hour procedure. I exceeded both Dr. Macagno and the hospital staff expectations. Instead of walking a few steps, I easily walked the full length of the hospital halls and climbed stairs almost immediately after surgery. I am so happy to have met Dr. Macagno. I sing his praises every day and I always post on social media about how amazing I am doing every year on the anniversary of my surgery.”

Dr.v is a great doctor !!! From day one he has accessed and managed my pain while acknowledging me not only as his patient but as a person as well. Every Dr office should have a Dr. V and the world for patients with pain would be a much better place. I haven’t had a Dr this great since Dr de Mourra who did my surgery In 2013. Thank you Dr de Mourra for referring me to a pain management dr who really cares for my needs as his patient. It has been a tough road . I can now honestly say the road I travel now as a pain patient is much smoother and manageable. Thank you Dr v and NYU.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Back surgery is not a one-stop cure for your back pain. In order to successfully rehabilitate your spine, no matter how minimal the surgery, physical therapy is a must. It can help you to regain movement and mobility, decrease pain, restore function and limit disability if you have injuries or impairments.* For people who have lifestyles that may strain their neck or back even more, this is especially important to do. Our renowned back specialists in Great River, NY can help take care of the neck or back injury that is stressing you out in life.

Michael Friar, D.P.T. is New York Spine Institute’s licensed physical therapist. Whatever the best course of action you may need through physical therapy, he will help you find it. Manual therapy, exercise and proper stretching will be taught to you and assisted by our staff. Our patients need any essential information that we may have on body mechanics, postural awareness and home exercises to help you get back in shape. You not only start to heal through physical therapy, you also help prevent reinjury.

Cardio and weight machines are there for any patients in Great River, NY undergoing physical therapy. They help build strength and endurance training for the affected body part. Before you start, you meet with a licensed physical therapist to see how well you can function and the amount of pain you can withstand. Afterwards, Dr. Friar will set practical goals for you to aim for through the best treatment possible.

IMAGING SERVICES FOR GREAT RIVER PATIENTS

MRIs, better known as Magnetic Resonance Imaging, can help diagnose many conditions in the spine. It helps NYSI keep its message of treating patients as comfortably as possible, and is safe and noninvasive. The radiologist is able to analyze images through the digital radiology department for soft tissue and bone anatomy. State-of-the-art diagnostics helps our team provide care that’s individualized for you.

Our Great River patients are in luck, as the NYSI offers a high field short bore 1.5T MRI system and Digital Radiography (DX) x-rays.

This advanced MRI system can help support a wide range of clinical applications, providing images of the spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle and foot.*

Our brand new GE 1.5T system provides detailed pictures of anatomy and pathology in the highest quality possible to make sure patients know if they have a musculoskeletal disorder.

MRIs are much better than the average diagnostic imaging tool. Not only is it safer and much less invasive than its counterparts, but help evaluate many different parts of the body to figure out if there are diseases that may not be visible through x-ray, ultrasound or CT scans (Computed Tomography).*

We strive to make the patient feel as welcomed and comforted as possible, with your choice of music, earplugs and sleeping mask to help you unwind and make the process less scary.

Because this facility also has a digital radiology department, the images captured by the device are digitized so you can be diagnosed through your bones and some soft tissue anatomy being analyzed. For proper scoliosis assessment, we also provide Long Length Imaging (LLI).

*The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment will vary by patient and condition. New York Spine Institute does not guarantee certain results.
