SPINE SURGERY & CARE IN LINDENHURST, NY
New York Spine Institute understands not many people are fluent in spine disorders, commonly referring to their ailment as “neck or back pain”. Our Lindenhurst patients can rest assured that our expert team is knowledgeable in diagnosing any type of spinal condition and determining the underlying cause of your pain. In addition to diagnostics, we provide excellent treatment options that fit any lifestyle, getting you back on your feet in no time.*
Surgery as a treatment option will always be NYSI’s last resort. If all appropriate non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment options have been exhausted, spinal surgery will be performed. The most common surgical operation for neck or back pain is the relief of a pinched nerve. For patients suffering from immobility or loss of bodily functions, surgery is done to relieve spinal cord compression or mechanical instability of the spine.
Types of Spinal Surgeries we offer our Lindenhurst patients:
New York Spine Institute’s surgical department is home to board-certified orthopedic surgeons. These individuals are spine surgery specialists, with advanced training in bone and neurological disorders associated with the spine. Our spine surgeons provide pre-operative consultations and post-operative treatment plans in addition to the surgery they perform. We strive to provide an environment where our patients are completely relaxed and comfortable, which is why our team takes the time to explain your diagnosis, exactly how the surgery will be performed, and answer whatever questions you may have.*

New York Spine Institute does not believe in a one-size-fits-most treatment plan. We provide each patient with a completely custom treatment plan, tailored to their individual needs and lifestyle. Our Lindenhurst, NY patients are unique, so why should their treatment be the same? Even patients suffering from the same condition will have different treatment plans, as severity of symptoms and outlying medical factors vary from person to person.
Our neck and back specialists always begin with a complete evaluation, asking questions to get a complete idea of what exactly is going on in the body. We take the time to listen to your complaints and concerns, and may administer tests deemed appropriate for diagnosis. NYSI is a surgical practice by name, though not by nature. Most Lindenhurst patients will experience pain relief non-surgically, which is why we exhaust all other options before choosing surgery.*

“If I can help one person and say you’ll make it through this, go to them, they will help you. I would help you to let you see what it is like on the other side of the fence when someone goes through so much injury and trauma and then in turn, feels like I do. If you can just meet one doctor, please meet Dr. de Moura.”

“I was having severe chronic back pain daily. This went on for almost fifteen years. As soon as I met Dr. Macagno I said, “that’s the guy.” I eventually had a spinal fusion L4/5 and S1. This was a ten-hour procedure. I exceeded both Dr. Macagno and the hospital staff expectations. Instead of walking a few steps, I easily walked the full length of the hospital halls and climbed stairs almost immediately after surgery. I am so happy to have met Dr. Macagno. I sing his praises every day and I always post on social media about how amazing I am doing every year on the anniversary of my surgery.”

Dr.v is a great doctor !!! From day one he has accessed and managed my pain while acknowledging me not only as his patient but as a person as well. Every Dr office should have a Dr. V and the world for patients with pain would be a much better place. I haven’t had a Dr this great since Dr de Mourra who did my surgery In 2013. Thank you Dr de Mourra for referring me to a pain management dr who really cares for my needs as his patient. It has been a tough road . I can now honestly say the road I travel now as a pain patient is much smoother and manageable. Thank you Dr v and NYU.
Whenever possible, our physicians opt for physical therapy, a minimally invasive and non-operative treatment that has proven success in quick recovery. Many surgical patients will also require physical therapy as a part of their post-operative recovery plan. New York Spine Institute serving Lindenhurst is proud to provide patients with Michael Friar, our very own licensed Physical Therapist. Physical therapy is used for many types of pain management and is often all is needed to provide patients with relief.
The goal of physical therapy is ultimately to encourage mobility and restore proper functions, especially in patients who suffer from limited mobility or complete immobility. Physical therapy implements stretching, exercise, and manual therapy to achieve patient-specific goals. In addition to the physical aspect, NYSI believes it is just as important to teach patients proper body mechanics and postural awareness. Additionally, Michael Friar, D.P.T., develops home exercise programs so our patients can continue their progress outside of the office.
Some conditions may benefit from more than just stretching and simple exercise, which is why the NYSI offers weight and cardio machines for patients in need of strength or endurance training. As our utmost priority is safety, our licensed physical therapist evaluates each patient’s current level of function and determines their optimal level of function. This is done on a case-by-case basis, creating realistic goals and keeping each patient’s lifestyle and condition in mind.
