SPINE SURGERY & CARE SERVING ST. JAMES, NY

There are a number of spine disorders that can contribute to back pain or neck pain, including fractures, herniated discs, diseased discs, and infection. With that said, the specialized spine doctors here at the NYSI strive to provide effective back pain treatment options to all our patients in St. James and the adjacent towns. Our team will get to the root of your neck or back pain problems, and once armed with information needed, our neck specialists can provide you with the correct line of treatment to help you get back on your feet.*

Our dedicated back doctors prefer to avoid surgery and rather are steadfast in providing the least invasive back pain treatment options for all our patients. They will typically reserve spine surgery for those patients who still experience pain after having received previous back pain treatment or neck pain treatment without effective results, but if they find it necessary, our spine surgeons will conduct appropriate surgeries to help provide relief from pain generated by pinched nerves, spinal cord compression, or mechanical instability of the spinal cord.

Types of Spinal Surgeries we offer our St. James patients:

The back doctors here at the NYSI specialize in a wide range of spine surgeries and possess years of advanced training in bone and neurological spinal disorders. We have rendered treatments to thousands of patients in the greater New York City area including St. James who have suffered from back pain and neck pain. Our neck and back specialists are diligent in their efforts to pinpoint the source of your pain and provide proper treatment for your condition.*

PREMIER SCOLIOSIS TREATMENT CENTER SERVING ST. JAMES

Here in the United States there are millions of people who are affected by scoliosis, which is a side to side curvature of the spine, unlike the natural front to back curves. Those patients who have insignificant curves of the spine typically require no treatments, however, those with large curves can ultimately suffer from a myriad of health issues caused by the scoliosis which can include fatigue, muscle pain, back pain, spinal arthritis, or even breathing issues.

For top-rated scoliosis treatment, be sure to visit the NYSI. Our spine and back specialists skillfully treat the varying degrees and types of scoliosis, like the degenerative or common idiopathic types. Because we take a comprehensive approach to treating scoliosis we are recognized as a world class scoliosis center. We offer extensive care for both children and adults, as we understand it impacts individuals of all ages.* The treatment spine doctors render to our St. James patients suffering with scoliosis depends upon the severity of your spine’s curvature.

In some cases, back surgeons may find it necessary to rely upon surgery. Our highly qualified neck surgeons at our nationally ranked center, NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, possess years of knowledge and overall experience.* The back surgeons here at the NYSI have offered lectures around the world on the topic of scoliosis and have authored a variety of scoliosis treatment publications. “If I can help one person and say you’ll make it through this, go to them, they will help you. I would help you to let you see what it is like on the other side of the fence when someone goes through so much injury and trauma and then in turn, feels like I do. If you can just meet one doctor, please meet Dr. de Moura.”

“I was having severe chronic back pain daily. This went on for almost fifteen years. As soon as I met Dr. Macagno I said, “that’s the guy.” I eventually had a spinal fusion L4/5 and S1. This was a ten-hour procedure. I exceeded both Dr. Macagno and the hospital staff expectations. Instead of walking a few steps, I easily walked the full length of the hospital halls and climbed stairs almost immediately after surgery. I am so happy to have met Dr. Macagno. I sing his praises every day and I always post on social media about how amazing I am doing every year on the anniversary of my surgery.”

Dr.v is a great doctor !!! From day one he has accessed and managed my pain while acknowledging me not only as his patient but as a person as well. Every Dr office should have a Dr. V and the world for patients with pain would be a much better place. I haven’t had a Dr this great since Dr de Mourra who did my surgery In 2013. Thank you Dr de Mourra for referring me to a pain management dr who really cares for my needs as his patient. It has been a tough road . I can now honestly say the road I travel now as a pain patient is much smoother and manageable. Thank you Dr v and NYU.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

It is important for patients to understand the significance that physical therapy plays in their overall rehabilitation. Even our St. James patients who have undergone the most minimally invasive surgeries require effective physical therapy to aid in their movement and mobility, decrease pain, restore function, and limit disability for those patients with injuries or impairments.* Physical therapy is a critical component of rehabilitation especially for patients that have lifestyles that add additional strain to their neck and back.

If you’ve experienced a neck or back injury, then the renowned back specialists here at the NYSI are the ideal team of doctors for you. Our licensed physical therapist, Michael Friar, D.P.T., along with our team of dedicated physical therapists are committed to providing patients the highest quality physical therapy treatments. Patients are provided with specific instructions on proper stretching, exercise, and manual therapy.

In order to improve our patients’ conditions, we work alongside of them to help them understand the importance of body mechanics, postural awareness, and exercises that can be done at home that not only help with their healing process but assist in preventing reinjury. Our team utilizes cardio and weight machines to target strength and endurance training for all our St. James patients who are undergoing physical therapy. We are steadfast in providing the best treatment options to all our patients along with setting practical goals for patients to achieve.

IMAGING SERVICES FOR ST. JAMES PATIENTS

Here at the NYSI our state of the art radiology department includes a high field short bore 1.5T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system. This system is effective in diagnosing many conditions and supports a wide range of clinical applications including, but not limited to, MRIs of the spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, hip, knee, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle and foot*. The MRI system is every bit safe as it is noninvasive, and is an innovative tool used by our doctors for providing comfortable treatment for our patients. This new GE 1.5T MRI system provides our physicians with high quality, detailed pictures of anatomy and pathology they require in their efforts to help evaluate a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders.

The MRI system utilizes magnetism and radio waves to produce detailed images used to evaluate various parts of the body and determine the presence of certain diseases which may not be visible with other imaging methods such as x-ray, ultrasound or CT (Computed Tomography).*

We are also equipped with a digital radiography department that is used to capture digital images that allow the radiologist to analyze bone and soft tissue anatomy for diagnosis. Further to our equipment, we also have Long Length Imaging (LLI) for proper scoliosis assessment as well.

*The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment will vary by patient and condition. New York Spine Institute does not guarantee certain results.
