“If I can help one person and say you’ll make it through this, go to them, they will help you. I would help you to let you see what it is like on the other side of the fence when someone goes through so much injury and trauma and then in turn, feels like I do. “I was having severe chronic back pain daily. This went on for almost fifteen years. As soon as I met Dr. Macagno I said, “that’s the guy.” I eventually had a spinal fusion L4/5 and S1. This was a ten-hour procedure. I exceeded both Dr. Macagno and the hospital staff expectations. Instead of walking a few steps, I easily walked the full length of the hospital halls and climbed stairs almost immediately after surgery. I am so happy to have met Dr. Macagno. I sing his praises every day and I always post on social media about how amazing I am doing every year on the anniversary of my surgery.”

Dr.v is a great doctor !!! From day one he has accessed and managed my pain while acknowledging me not only as his patient but as a person as well. Every Dr office should have a Dr. V and the world for patients with pain would be a much better place. I haven’t had a Dr this great since Dr de Mourra who did my surgery In 2013. Thank you Dr de Mourra for referring me to a pain management dr who really cares for my needs as his patient. It has been a tough road . I can now honestly say the road I travel now as a pain patient is much smoother and manageable. Thank you Dr v and NYU.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Generally speaking, most people want a procedure that is both minimally invasive and non-surgical.  Physical therapy in that case, is often a perfect choice. And thankfully, our patients in the Vails Gate area now have access to our world-class licensed physical therapist – Michael Friar D.P.T.. Physical therapy is designed to help decrease pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

If you have an injury or impairment, physical therapy also may aid in the recovery of it. Exercises are varied but typically are centered around stretching, modalities, and manual therapy. Patients also work on proper body mechanics and postural awareness. They even receive a home-based routine that they can practice on their own. Our patients have access to our weight machines when you’re at our offices.

The first step in our process is an evaluation by one of our licensed physical therapists. They will assess your current level of function and pain intensity. They will also consider your lifestyle and what treatments may be best suited for it. Then, our resident Michael Friar, D.P.T. will suggest treatment options available to the patient. When we prescribe treatment, we always strive to set realistic goals for your life.

IMAGING SERVICES FOR VAILS GATE PATIENTS

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine was invented in 1977 and has since revolutionized medical practices everywhere. It is a useful, non-invasive, and safe way to help diagnose conditions. Our MRI machine gives our doctors the tools that they need to analyze your bones and soft tissue anatomy.

Our office in Vails Gate has state of the art and technologically advanced diagnostic tools. In addition to our 1.5 MRI system, we also have a Digital Radiography (DX) x-ray. Our high-field short bore 1.5 MRI system supports many clinical situations. We can do MRI scans of the spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, ankle, and even the foot! New York Spine Institute’s brand-new GE 1.5 system will also provide our physicians with their best images yet. With this system, our doctors will be able to see high-quality and detailed pictures of your condition. That way, they can try to more accurately diagnose and eventually treat your back pain.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetism and radio waves to produce detailed images of the body. It is extremely safe, non-invasive, and helpful to physicians. Many times, an MRI scan will pick up the presence of a certain disease when other tools such as x-rays cannot. We want you to feel comfortable and confident in our office. We know that doctor’s visits can be scary but we don’t think they should be. That is why we have made our office in Vails Gate as “homey” as possible. We have relaxing music, earplugs, and even sleeping masks. We care about our patients and want to make sure that they are comfortable.

New York Spine Institute of Vails Gate is even outfitted with its own digital radiology department. In this part of our practice, the images are digitized and radiologists can analyze bone and soft tissue. As part of this, we also offer Long Length Imaging (LLI) for proper scoliosis assessment.

*The effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment will vary by patient and condition. New York Spine Institute does not guarantee certain results.
