Premier Scoliosis Treatment Center of West Point

While scoliosis is one of the most common conditions in The United States, that doesn’t make it any easier to have. Scoliosis occurs when the spine curves from side to side rather than front to back. If your scoliosis is the type that features large curves, then you probably have a myriad of health issues that accompany it. These may include fatigue, muscle pain, back pain, spinal arthritis, or even breathing issues. Whether your scoliosis is the common idiopathic or congenital and iatrogenic sort, we can treat it. We treat a wide range of scoliosis patients and conditions. We also even have pediatric as well as adult care. Regardless of your path, you can be sure that your doctor will offer you a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach.

“If I can help one person and say you’ll make it through this, go to them, they will help you. I would help you to let you see what it is like on the other side of the fence when someone goes through so much injury and trauma and then in turn, feels like I do. If you can just meet one doctor, please meet Dr. de Moura.”

“I was having severe chronic back pain daily. This went on for almost fifteen years. As soon as I met Dr. Macagno I said, “that’s the guy.” I eventually had a spinal fusion L4/5 and S1. This was a ten-hour procedure. I exceeded both Dr. Macagno and the hospital staff expectations. Instead of walking a few steps, I easily walked the full length of the hospital halls and climbed stairs almost immediately after surgery. I am so happy to have met Dr. Macagno. I sing his praises every day and I always post on social media about how amazing I am doing every year on the anniversary of my surgery.”

Dr.v is a great doctor !!! From day one he has accessed and managed my pain while acknowledging me not only as his patient but as a person as well. Every Dr office should have a Dr. V and the world for patients with pain would be a much better place. I haven’t had a Dr this great since Dr de Mourra who did my surgery In 2013. Thank you Dr de Mourra for referring me to a pain management dr who really cares for my needs as his patient. It has been a tough road . I can now honestly say the road I travel now as a pain patient is much smoother and manageable. Thank you Dr v and NYU.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Unfortunately, successful surgery doesn’t usually end in total recovery right away. Even patients who undergo minimally invasive surgeries will likely require physical therapy afterwards. By completing a physical therapy regime, you may be able to help decrease pain, restore function, and limit future disability. We also highly recommend post-operational physical therapy to those with active lifestyles. If you are regularly putting strain on your neck or back, you will want to recover as soon as possible.

Thankfully, our patients in the West Point, NY area now have access to our world-class licensed physical therapist – Michael Friar, D.P.T. Under his guidance, you’ll learn exercises based around stretching, modalities, and manual therapy. You’ll also work on proper body mechanics and postural awareness. When you’re at home, you can go through your personalized routine. And when you’re in our office, you’ll also have access to our world-class cardio and weight machines. Using these, you’ll be able to target strength and endurance training.

All of these exercises will lead you on a better path to recovery and possibly even prevent future injury. The first step in our process is an evaluation by one of our licensed physical therapists. They will assess your current level of function and pain intensity. They will also consider your lifestyle. Then, our resident Michael Friar, D.P.T. will take all of that into account to suggest treatment options available. He will always focus on specializing in your back pain treatment and setting realistic goals.

IMAGING SERVICES FOR WEST POINT PATIENTS

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine was invented in 1977 and has since revolutionized medical practices everywhere. It is a useful, non-invasive, and safe way to help diagnose conditions. Our MRI machine in West Point, NY will give our doctors the tools that they need to analyze your bones and soft tissue anatomy. Our office in West Point has state of the art and technologically advanced diagnostic tools. In addition to our 1.5 MRI system, we also have a Digital Radiography (DX) x-ray.

Our high-field short bore 1.5 MRI system supports many clinical situations. We can do MRI scans of the spine, brain, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist, ankle, and even the foot! New York Spine Institute’s brand-new GE 1.5 system will also provide our physicians with their best images yet. With this system, our doctors will be able to see high-quality and detailed pictures of your condition. That way, they can try to more accurately diagnose and eventually treat your back pain.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetism and radio waves to produce detailed images of the body. It is extremely safe, non-invasive, and helpful to physicians. Many times, an MRI scan will pick up the presence of a certain disease when other tools such as x-rays cannot. Spine and neck treatment can be scary. But we want you to feel comfortable and confident in our office. So we have made our office in West Point as “homey” as possible. When you come here, you will have access to relaxing music, earplugs, and even sleeping masks. We care about our patients and want to make sure that they are comfortable.

Our office in West Point is even outfitted with its own digital radiology department. In this part of our practice, the images are digitized and radiologists can analyze bone and soft tissue. As part of this, we also offer Longth Length Imaging (LLI) for proper scoliosis assessment.
