Minimally invasive relief from nerve compression, right here in Brooklyn.
What Is a Laminectomy?
A laminectomy is a surgical procedure that removes a portion of the vertebral bone—called the lamina—to alleviate pressure on spinal nerves. This decompression surgery is typically recommended when conservative therapies like physical therapy, injections, or medications have not relieved your symptoms.
Common reasons for laminectomy include:
- Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal)
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Spondylolisthesis (slipped vertebra)
- Bone spurs or arthritis-related nerve compression
- Degenerative disc disease
The goal is to relieve nerve irritation that causes radiating pain, numbness, weakness, or mobility limitations—especially in the lower back and legs.
