Minimally invasive relief for spinal compression fractures.
What Are Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty?
Both kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty are outpatient procedures designed to reinforce fractured vertebrae. These fractures, often caused by osteoporosis, low-impact trauma, or degenerative spinal conditions, can lead to severe discomfort and changes in posture or height.
In a kyphoplasty, a balloon is inserted into the collapsed vertebra and gently inflated to restore its height. Medical-grade cement is then used to stabilize the structure.
A vertebroplasty, by contrast, skips the balloon step and focuses purely on injecting cement to support the damaged bone.
While both procedures aim to relieve pain and restore function, your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate option based on imaging results and your specific anatomy.
